Rosa Maria I is located about 50 km from the Guatemala capital, in an important gold area, close to active gold mining operations (not alluvial) and also close to a cement factory. This area is very rich; gold, silver and other industrial minerals of interest are known to exist here in commercially viable concentrations. The river, Las Canas, crosses the entire district and its waters, which run from northwest to southeast, drains all of the principle gold deposits.
