CAROLINA I
At 90.5 Km from Guatemala city, this area has been a known gold source since the days of pre-Columbian Mayan civilization. Ancient rulers put local Mesoamerican people in this area to work to exploit the gold, which is still to be found in this section near the headwaters of the Motagua, the longest in Guatemala. Here, on the northwestern side south of the Sierra de Chuacus, is a large area considered to be a potentially rich source for all kinds of valuable minerals–precious, semi precious and industrial.
