David I

Our main area of interest, located in aldea Los Encuentros, Municipio El Chol, department of Baja Verapaz, near the geographic center of the country.

David I covers an area of 14 km2, along the Rio Grande o Motagua. Geology here, as at Barbara I, is associated with ancestral Cretacious faulting within the Motagua fault contact zone. By the late Mesozoic ancient rocks had emerged and brought minerals of all kinds closer to the surface. Locals still use rudimentary tools to recover a limited amount of gold from the river.
